Step into my world and explore the stories that dwell in my dreams.
Some of my earliest happy memories are of sitting alone with a book.
It might have been one by Anne McCaffrey, David Eddings or Sir Terry Pratchett. On occasion it may have even been a Stephen King anthology of short stories, or a Richard Laymon horror. Whatever it was, it took me away from where I was and immersed me in a life I wasn't living - and that was perfect.
Books take us away from where we are, and often who we are, and allow us to experience another world. All of these worlds are linked to our own, though, however distant they may seem. Stories give us the space to explore parts of ourselves and the world around us that we may struggle to come to terms with otherwise.
Writing has been the lens through which I've examined myself of the years. I have now reached a point where I want to share those stories, in the hope that they resonate with someone else who has faced the same struggles. Even if they don't, and you just enjoy the ride, that is enough.
I am open to applications for ARC readers now. Is you’re a book reviewer, blogger or the like just fill in the form to apply for an advanced copy of Ember and Steel in exchange for an honest review.
Here is what one of my beta readers said:
“Ember and Steel is a story of lost innocence, vengeance, romance, and magical discovery set in a medieval world of knights and dukes, but like a smouldering ember at the bottom of a firepit, something burns under the surface. You want unique magic and deep lore with eldritch beings? Believable and interesting characters? Cathartic release?
Donna’s got it in spades.
Donna excels in creating characters with authentic motivations, wonderful dialogue, and a healthy dose of contradictions to maintain tension. She made me smile, laugh, whoop for joy at SWEET catharsis, and cry at the masterfully constructed emotional climax of the story. If you haven’t yet decided to give her work a go, I hope you reconsider after reading this.” - Jasper L Walker, author of The Shattered Line
