Some of my earliest happy memories are of sitting alone with a book. It might have been one by Anne McCaffrey, David Eddings, or Sir Terry Pratchett. On occasion, it may have even been a Stephen King anthology of short stories or a Richard Laymon horror. Whatever it was, it took me away from where I was and immersed me in a life I wasn't living - and that was perfect.
Books take us away from where we are, and often who we are, allowing us to experience another world. All of these worlds are linked to our own, however distant they may seem. Stories give us the space to explore parts of ourselves and the world around us that we may struggle to come to terms with otherwise.
Writing has been the lens through which I've examined myself over the years, and as I embark on my own author's journey, I have now reached a point where I want to share those stories. As a Donna Morgan author, I hope that my work resonates with someone else who has faced the same struggles. Even if they don't, and you just enjoy the ride through my novel 'Ember and Steel,' that is enough.
